1.1.1 General program introduction

7 CFR 273.1(a)

FoodShare Wisconsin helps low-income individuals and families buy the food they need for good health.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is responsible for setting the basic program rules for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) so that the program is operated similarly throughout the country. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) administers the state’s SNAP program, called FoodShare. Government income maintenance (IM) workers at county/tribal human or social service agencies (local IM agencies) determine eligibility for FoodShare benefits and are responsible for issuing benefits.
