39.6 Cost-of-Living Adjustment

To calculate the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLAcost-of-living adjustment. An increase in income to compensate for inflation.) disregardAn amount not counted when determining a person's total net income. amount, do the following:
 

  1. Find the AG's current gross Old Age Survivors DisabilityThe law defines disability for Medicaid as "The inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity (SGA) by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment(s) which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." Insurance (OASDIOld Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Program. Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Program payments, known as “Social Security” by the Social Security Administration (SSA) include SSA Retirement, Disability, Survivors benefits, and any other benefits covered in Title II of the Social Security Act. ) Benefits  income. The gross OASDI income is the amount of the OASDI check plus any amount that has been withheld for a Medicare premium plus any amount with-held to repay an earlier overpayment.  Do not include in the gross income any Medicare Plan B premiums which the State has purchased for the AGassistance group.

 

 

  1. On the COLA DisregardAn amount not counted when determining a person's total net income. Amount Table below find the last month in which the person was eligible for and received a check for both OASDI and Supplemental Security Income ( SSI ).

 

 

  1. Find the decimal figure that applies to this month.

 

 

  1. Multiply the person's current gross OASDI income by the applicable decimal figure. The result is the COLA disregard amount.
