4.3.1 SCORM Introduction

SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model.  It is a set of standards for learning management systems such as Pathlore or Adobe Connect Pro.  It allows us to track quiz responses and other learner data.  Captivate has the option to use SCORM.

4.3.2 Project SCORM Settings

Note that even though the main project isn’t a quiz, you must still edit the quiz settings so that Pathlore can track each training a user starts and completes.

In Captivate, go to Edit>Preferences. Then click on "Quiz."  Make sure your project has these settings:

Now go to Edit>Preferences again.   Click on "Start and End."

In the project end options drop down box make sure to select “Close Project” as the action to be taken at the end of the course.  This will ensure that the course closes out completely rather than leaving the user with a blank window that they will have to close out of in addition to stopping the course.  You can use the defaults for everything else.

Shuffle Answers: In general, you should shuffle the answers to questions on a quiz slide. Checking this will automate that. However, if you have long answers on quiz questions, this can lead to formatting issues on the quiz slides. When in doubt, don't check this box.

Allow Backward Movement: Uncheck this box since the respondent may only answer once and cannot change their answer during the quiz.

Show score at end of quiz: Check this box.

Allow user to review quiz: Check this box.

Quiz Result Messages:  Edit the Quiz Result messages to say:

  1. Pass: Congratulations, you passed!

  2. Fail: “You did not achieve an 80% correct score.  Please review the questions you missed.  When you're ready, take the quiz again. “

Note: The field for this fail message doesn’t allow for word wrap. This has to fit on one line. Take the quiz for your project and on the results page, edit the properties and grab the field handles for the fail message and drag so that the field stretches across the slide and reduce the font so this whole fail message appears.

On this same Preferences page, click on Quiz> Pass or Fail

An 80% score or better is required to pass an IM Training Module quiz.  For this reason, it's best if you have quizzes with questions in multiples of 5 (i.e 10, 15, or 20 questions).

Make sure your project has these settings:

No other edits are needed to set up the project level SCORM settings.
